Russian Blood: Skripals and the Court of Protection


The Court of Protection granted permission to take blood samples from Sergei Skripal and his daughter, Yulia, to facilitate tests by chemical weapons experts.


Mr Justice Williams stated: 'the precise effect of their exposure on their long-term health remains unclear, albeit medical tests indicate that their mental capacity might be compromised to an unknown and so far unascertained degree.'


The Court concluded that it is in the best interests of Mr and Ms Skripal for the samples to be taken, tested and notes provided. The Court's rationale for the best interests decision is set out in the judgment, a link to which is below:
